NZPI Best Practice Award 2017
The NZ Planning Institute 2017 Best Practice Award for Natural Hazard Risk in the Bay of Plenty Regional Policy Statement. The Bay of Plenty Regional Council developed the Living with Risk project to identify what level of risk from natural hazards their different communities are willing to live with. I led the Risk Threshold Engagement component, involving extensive community engagement and the preparation of a detailed report on this engagement. With the collaborative project team, we developed and conducted purpose-built community engagement which provided clear direction for the preparation of a comprehensive policy framework and detailed guidance and a process that has been ground breaking in New Zealand.
